CONFLUENCE: A ONE-OF-ONE

At Compass Box, whiskymaking has always been about bringing things together. Different ideas. Different places. Different flavours. When those elements meet in the right way, something new emerges.

That idea is at the heart of Confluence, a one-of-one whisky created as a singular moment in time.

What does Confluence mean?

Confluence (noun): a situation in which two things join or come together.

The name speaks directly to the story behind this release. Confluence marks the first blend created by Angela D’Orazio as Creative Director of Whiskymaking, and it brings together two places that have shaped her both personally and creatively.

For this whisky, Angela drew on whiskies from her homeland of Sweden alongside carefully selected Scotch whiskies from the Compass Box library in London. The result is a blend that reflects contrast and harmony in equal measure, shaped by different traditions but united by flavour.

Handcrafted wood display for Compass Box Confluence

A whisky shaped by landscape

Flavour is always the starting point at Compass Box, but the story does not end there.

To honour the meeting of Sweden and Scotland, artist Mary West created a hand- painted label inspired by the landscapes behind the whisky. Crisp northern light and deep Swedish forests sit alongside rugged Scottish coasts and windswept moors. These are not just visual references. They are places that influence mood, memory and the way flavour is experienced.

The bottle is presented in a handcrafted wooden display by Bough & Burr, made from Scottish wood and finished to highlight the natural character of the material. Nothing is hidden. Every mark and grain is part of the story.

Together, the whisky, artwork and presentation form a single object. Made once. Never repeated.

A singular moment at auction

Earlier this month, Confluence was offered at auction alongside a small selection of some of the oldest and rarest Compass Box whiskies. The one-of-one bottle achieved $22,500, the highest price ever reached for a Compass Box release, contributing to $54,000 raised in support of The Wolfsonian-FIU.

While Confluence now belongs to a single collector, the ideas behind it are very much alive.

Confluence: Landmark Compass Box Auction

A Continuing Story

Compass Box has always believed that whisky can be creative, expressive and welcoming, without losing its sense of craft. Confluence is an expression of that belief. A meeting of places. A meeting of perspectives. A reminder that blending is both an art and a science.

You can explore this spirit of imagination further at IMAGINARIUM, our exhibition with long-time design partners Stranger & Stranger, now showing at The Wolfsonian-FIU until January 4th. The exhibition brings together 25 years of whiskymaking, design and collaboration, and invites you to step inside the worlds behind the bottles.

Confluence may be a one-off, but the thinking behind it continues to shape everything we make.
