Fewer gambling ads in bus shelters and bus stops
The legal online casinos are trying to put themselves in the spotlight in many ways. In addition to television and online advertisements, gambling providers are increasingly choosing to use bus shelters and bus stops. The industry organization Outreach has announced that it will halt the number of 'Out of Home' gambling advertisements. From now on, a maximum of 20% of the available bus shelters and bus stops will be available for casino advertisements.
A total ban on advertising
The Dutch gambling market opened in October 2021 and since then casino advertisements have been appearing on television and social media. The advertisements soon came under scrutiny, as there was considerable criticism of a large number of Jeetwin casino advertisements. At the end of last year, the Advertising Code for Online Gambling was presented, and it was decided to reduce the number of gambling advertisements. A maximum of three casino-related commercials per commercial break may still appear on television. There are also rules regarding the timing of the advertising, simply to protect certain target groups.

At the end of last year, there was also a motion passed by the second chamber. The motion was about a total ban on advertising for providers of games of chance. Outreach takes drastic decision
The motion has yet to be given substance, but the industry organization Outreach has already made a drastic decision. Another 20% of the offer may be filled with advertisements of online gambling providers. Hannelore Majoor, president of Outreach, hopes that the decision will also take social responsibility. However, we believe that in addition, there is also a need to balance the share of gambling advertising in the entire range of advertisements in outdoor advertising."
