Stained-glass formation

Stained glass window is a decorative window filling. They are made of many pieces of colored glass. Most often around them are leaded frames. We usually associate stained glass windows with religious architecture. You can meet them, for example, in churches. On the other hand, companies manufacturing stained-glass windows offer their customers to make such window jewelry and other objects, such as houses. However, before we can enjoy the view of the finished stained glass, it is worth learn how it is manufactured.

Draw and cut out
The first step that is necessary for the manufacture of stained glass is a sketch. Thus, the artist creates an overview of the entire composition. Sketches can be performed for the entire window or for individual parts, however, the full sketches are called full-size drawings.

At this stage, the forms and dimensions of individual elements are created, as well as parts to be painted. Making the sketch, do not forget to specify the color of the glass that will be used in subsequent works.

Having made the appropriate sketch, you can move to the next step of work, i.e. Cut. At this stage, the colors of individual pieces of design are already selected. Their contours, in turn, usually paint white-lime paint. Glass elements are cut in accordance with the sketch. This activity uses iron tools with a hot tip. It is applied to the surface of the glass package, which leads to its cracking in the specified location. Thus, each component of the stained glass is carefully cut.

Then the cut items must be reduced to the appropriate size.

Stained-in painting and other finishing works
After creating the appropriate elements made of glass, they should be painted with a special dye. It is created by mixing iron oxide, copper ore and powder glass. After painting, each element of stained glass is placed in the furnace so that the paint melted and firmly fixed on the surface of the glass.

When creating stained glass windows, it is also necessary to use lead. It is used to connect glass elements with each other, thus creating a panel. The narrow lead strips are called the lead edging of the stained glass. Lead is used because it is flexible, which allows you to adapt it to various forms of glass elements.

The next step is smoothing. Smoothing is the folding of the stained glass. In turn, followed by the joining of the panel. This operation is performed to protect the glass so that all this was impermeable to water. This protection is usually a semi-liquid binder that is applied with a brush. Then all this is falling asleep with chalk or sawdust so that the excess fluid has absorbed. At the very end, the panel is inspired so that the binder remains only under lead.
