Figment 2 Review: Creed Valley – A beautiful tale of journey into the depths of the mind

In 2017, the adventure Figment was released with the participation of an online game developer Friv2Online, which sent a funny creature named Dusty and his girlfriend Piper on a journey through the human mind in search of lost courage. The game was highly appreciated by gamers, and the developers began to work on a sequel. Well, finally, the continuation is ready: we tell in the review how Figment 2: Creed Valley turned out.

The second part starts right off the bat: the authors assume that the players are familiar with the original game, so they don’t bother to introduce the audience to Dusty and Piper, the principles of the existence of the world inside the mind, and other nuances. At first, this is discouraging, but you get used to the local universe quickly, and besides, it doesn’t really need any lore explanations.

This time, the heroes have to fix the Moral Compass of the person in whose mind they are. He pays too much attention to work, forgetting about his own wife and daughter; those, meanwhile, suffer from a lack of attention. Things can take a not the most pleasant turn, up to the breakup of the family, and the characters must fix everything before a disaster occurs. Namely, to destroy the nightmares that led to such a development of events.

Figment 2: Creed Valley, like the games in the Psychonauts series, tries to explain the logic of everything that happens in the depths of the mind. Locations are abstract only at first glance: a careful look will catch on stacks of books, which, obviously, symbolize knowledge, thought blocks that block the path, and other "hooks" that allow you to "read", albeit superficially, the personality of the owner of consciousness.

The key game mechanics of changing the state of the mind - from closed to open and vice versa - is visually presented in all details: if you "close" the mind, twilight will envelop it, the shutters of houses will slam shut, and insurmountable barriers will grow near the bridges. However, you can also benefit from such a state - many puzzles in this title are tied to this.Actually, the gameplay of Figment 2: Creed Valley is divided into two parts: puzzles and battles. The first ones are quite varied, not too complicated. Here and manipulation of states of mind, and control of thought blocks, and mini-games like "find a pair", and much more. Sometimes it is even allowed to use Opinions - funny creatures that inhabit the mind; listening to their comments is a real pleasure. It is impossible to get stuck in the trials for a long time, the game does not seek to confuse, and the solutions are often obvious.

The battles aren't hardcore either. Armed with a wooden sword and able to dodge attacks with rolls, Dusty famously cracks down on ordinary enemies and bosses. The latter can surprise with changeable battle rules and additionally entertain the player with funny songs. The battles are perfectly balanced: they do not allow you to relax, but also do not force you to replay the same segment many times.

Figment 2: Creed Valley sounds very nice (there is an excellent soundtrack here ), it looks beautiful and knows how to stop in time - the adventure takes about five hours, and every minute of it gives pleasant emotions. This is a good choice if you are looking for a game for a couple of evenings. And thanks to the local cooperative, you can share the pleasure with your soulmate or a child.
