Sniper Elite V2: Friv Overview

I remember my feelings after watching the very first Sniper Elite V2 trailer . A small clip that fits exactly one shot of an American sniper - but what a shot! “One bullet can change the course of history” ... And then it was shown exactly how it does it - in slowing down breaking the spine of a German tank officer, who inadvertently leaned out of the Tiger tower. The trailer could be reviewed endlessly - it all looked so cool.

X-Ray technology, thanks to which it was possible to consider in great detail what happens to enemy giblets at the moment of contact, promises to build the most realistic ballistics, not forgetting the plot and decent graphics ... But what else is needed for happiness? Guys from Rebellionthey started so vigorously that they simply had to make not a friv game, but a candy.

The Second World War is coming to an end. Our troops are finishing off the remnants of the Nazis in the German capital, and the Allies are completing the blocking of the randomly retreating Nazis. Berlin will take parts of the Red Army, but not all of our Western friends are satisfied. The fact is that those few authors of the Nazi missile project who still have not surrendered (to the troops west of the Elbe, of course) still remain in the city. Where the designers are, there is their development, and the Soviets should not be allowed to get all this wealth. The Allies (still without quotes) understand that after the Victory a new war looms on the horizon - and the winner in it, not least depends on who gets the secrets of defeated Germany.

Therefore, it is necessary to destroy those scientists who did not have time or did not want to go over to the side of the Americans. The fulfillment of this difficult mission is entrusted to a single soldier who puts a squirrel in the eye and knows how to handle explosives, and indeed - there is one whole regiment. The creators of the game apparently did not think about how long the loner would last in an enemy city in which fights were in full swing.

We will not pay attention to such a crazy plot plot (with regard to delirium, everything is still ahead) - what is happening fits perfectly into the outline of the militants about a lone hero who independently destroys a thousand or two enemy soldiers, simultaneously saving the world. And while people like these stories - well, we all have to see them on the screens of monitors, televisions and movie theaters.

“Supermanism” is, of course, good, but with regard to realism and historical authenticity, neither one nor the other has slept here. And it’s not even that one soldier brings down enemies in packs, leaving unscathed from any mess. As the history of the same World War II showed, this does not happen. An example is the story of Alexander Udodov , who repeated the feat of his namesake Alexander Matrosov , but managed to stay alive. If you make a game about the sniper eliteof that war, the leading role should be a Soviet or German shooter - the allies were very, very far from the successes of the two leading sniper schools. But here the laws of the market are already coming into play - apparently, to the buyer, whom the publisher is oriented to, the nicer fictional character with the fictitious exploits.

I must say right away that I consider myself a lover of "hardcore" games. Realism of what is happening, a minimum of conventions and “cranberries” - that’s what I like. And I became interested in Sniper Elite V2 primarily because of the promised reliable ballistics and tactics of sniper combat. Careful selection of the best position, disguise, the principle of "one shot - one corpse." I wanted to believe that all this would be, but "it turned out as always."

The game presents surprise after surprise. I did not know that the distance of a sniper fight, it turns out, is no more than 300 meters. Yes, and this distance to the target is rather an exception to the rule - usually you have to shoot at 100 - 150. It would seem that there’s nothing to aim here - aim the crosshair of the sight precisely in the head and pull the trigger. Corrections for wind and range are practically not needed - the distances are not the same. But no, if you please lift the sight almost half a figure up if the target is further than hundreds of meters. The bullets are so persistent that it feels like shooting not from a healthy rifle, which from a kilometer breaks a helmet along with its contents right through, but from some kind of pistol. It's funny, but more realistic to play with the ballistics off than with the one that the developers offer.

About camouflage, we can only say that if it is, it is very, very strange. You either see immediately and everything, or no one sees. The enemy often does not respond to the loud tramp of soldiers' boots ten meters away, but he will always hear the sound of a stone falling, thrown by the main character to distract attention. The notorious stealth with quiet firing of opponents from a pistol with a silencer and bypassing fortified positions turns into a farce: you can crawl close to the fascist, but he will not notice you. In addition, the “corridor” level design does not allow fantasy to take off - the choice is small. Oh, there would be an open world, as in Operation Flashpoint

Speaking of the enemy: strange guys are fighting here. Enemy fighters are just plain reckless courage. They can stand in the middle of the street at full height and start firing from a machine gun, not puzzled by the search for shelter. Snipers are even cooler. It turns out that the best position for shooting is standing on the roof, so that the silhouette of the “marksman” is clearly visible against the sky. Further more. Tanks exploding from falling into the fuel tank cap (I am silent about the fact that these tanks are optional, were used only on the march, but not in battle), "rich" trophies - each enemy soldier took 5-6 cartridges with him only for of the weapons that the main character uses ...

This is anything, but not a game about a sniper. Sniper Elite V2- A regular action movie on the theme of World War II with all the stamps inherent in the genre, except that a rifle with optics is a priority here. Where are the soulful Brothers in Arms scenes ? Where, in the end, are the dynamics and exciting scripting scenes of the first Call of Duty ? Not a war, but a comedy.

But the fact that our compatriots and you will be opponents is not at all fun. I'm afraid it seems old-fashioned, but the game about the colorful shooting of Soviet soldiers in Berlin is not at all what I expected on the eve of the Victory Day.

I could still understand if the game was about a German sniper - war is war, it was like that. But why are stereotypes, where without them, their own ally shoot at the soldiers of the Red Army (in earflaps and with huge stars instead of cockades)? The protagonist makes no distinction between Germans and Russians - he does not care who to kill. As for me, all this is nothing but blasphemy and disrespect for our common history. Apparently, few people are interested in how everything was really. For the sake of diversity, historical authenticity can also be sacrificed. But there are those who will think that "everything was so."

No, I did not forget about the main "chip" Sniper Elite V2 . Yes, it’s about the same “X-ray camera” that shows all the damage done by a bullet when it bites into an enemy body. Here it is worth paying tribute to the developers - as for this aspect of the game, there is nothing to complain about. After a particularly well-aimed shot, time slows down, and the camera accompanies the bullet, in the most favorable angles, showing everything that it gets up inside such a fragile human body. Honestly, sometimes it becomes uncomfortable - everything looks so realistic. Bones crumble, blood vessels and organs break, eyes burst ... All these are not scripts and animations not recorded ahead of time — each death is unique. The anatomy textbook is resting.

You can get into a grenade, which every second opponent carries with him on a belt. The explosion will be a feast for the eyes - with an "X-ray" and in slow motion. No less impressive are the explosions when they fall into a pre-set explosive charge and the tank fuel tank already mentioned.

If we leave aside the arguments about realism, then it is worth recognizing that from a technical point of view everything was done perfectly: both graphics and sound are at an altitude; unless you want to turn off annoying music from the first minutes of the friv game.
